Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP) is providing incentives for solar power, solar panels and solar roofs for new solar installations in LA county.

The state of California has a bold SB1 “Million Solar Roofs” legislation to help reduce the dependency on fossil fuels and go green. LADWP wants to help fulfill this bold mission of one million solar roofs by reducing the cost of installing solar PV systems for local customers. “Our goal is to spark the installation of reliable, well-designed solar generating systems throughout the city and to help establish a robust and viable solar PV industry in Los Angeles.”
Highlights of the LADWP Solar Energy program
- Maximum of 75% of project costs for residential installations and up to 50% for commercial systems can be covered.
- Maximum system size for incentive payment is 1 MW AC per site, or per government, or per corporate parent per year.
- 2 MW AC may be reserved depending on fund availability.

Los Angeles Solar Energy Incentive will decrease over time
The Los Angeles Solar Incentive Program is progressive. When certain installed megawatt (MW) targets are met, the incentive levels decrease. All incentives are adjusted for expected performance. Bonus incentives are provided to non-residential systems if they utilize equipment manufactured in LA or if the systems is building-integrated PV.
Bottom line: LADWP’s $313 million Revised Solar Photovoltaic Rebate Program began in 2007 and will remain in effect for 10 years through December 31, 2017, or until the total installed MW goal has been reached.
