Frequently Asked Questions

Should I lease or purchase a system?

Statistics have shown that it is more economical to purchase a system rather than lease one. If you lease you may be required to make monthly payments for at least 20 years, whereas if you purchase a system. Your payback period will be limited to a few years. Also, when you purchase the system, you receive the tax credit and not the leasing company.

Does Aikyum offer monitoring for my system after installation?

It is the homeowner’s responsibility to self-monitor their system through their smart phone app and inform Aikyum should they notice an error. We will verify the error remotely and contact the manufacturer to order the replacement part. Once the replacement part arrives in our warehouse, we will schedule a tech visit to fix the issue. Based on the manufacturer limited warranty, a tech visit service call fee may apply.

When is payment due?

For residential jobs, a deposit in the amount $1,000 is due upon signing the contract. 80% of the payment is due on the first day of installation and upon material delivery. The balance is due when your system has received the official Permission To Operate (PTO) from the utility company.

Do I need to be at home on the solar installation date?

What happens during a power outage if I have solar?

The most cost-effective way of installing solar with batteries for your home, is to install a grid tied system. What this means is that your solar panels and batteries are connected to the utility grid. The downside is that if there is a power outage, then the solar and batteries will not power your home. You can alleviate this issue if you install the batteries with the backup option which is available for additional cost.

What are the pros and cons of the Enphase micro inverters vs Tesla string inverter? Is one type more reliable than the other? Would multiple inverters mean more chance to break/malfunction?

Enphase microinverters are installed underneath each individual solar panel and therefore provide per panel production, whereas the Tesla String Inverter is a central inverter. The Enphase microinverters have a 25-year warranty while the Tesla inverters have a 10-year warranty. Should the Tesla inverter fail then the entire system will stop producing, however, if an Enphase microinverter fails the rest of the system will continue to produce. Even if multiple Enphase microinverters fail only those specific panels will not produce but the rest of the system will produce. In addition, if there is shading on the solar panels from nearby trees or chimneys, then the entire system can stop producing with the Tesla string inverter. However, with the Enphase microinverters only the shaded solar panels will not produce energy, and the rest of the system will continue to function normally.
