2018 Cost of a Tesla Solar Roof vs. Solar Panels
You may be wondering what the cost of a Tesla solar roof is compared to solar panels in 2018. The prices of a Tesla solar roof is currently about twice the price of solar panels, depending on whether or not you replace the roof. There are two scenarios to show how much the options will cost; both use a 3,000 square foot home with a $200/month electric bill.
Scenario One: Keeping the Same Roof
The first scenario is a home with the roof not replaced. It will cost about $22,000 to install new solar panels on that house, while it will cost about $50,000 to install a Tesla solar roof on it. Remember that a Tesla solar roof will produce about 3,000 kWh less than solar panels would.
Scenario Two: Replacing the Roof
The second scenario is where the homeowners wish to install a new roof. They will need about $14,000 to install the new 3,000 square foot roof, bringing the cost of solar panels up to about $36,000. The Tesla solar roof will remain about $50,000. Again, the Tesla solar roof produces less energy than the solar panels.
The Tesla solar roof would be an interesting option for homeowners who just want the latest technology and aren’t worried about the price. In our opinion, solar roof tiles are not a practical solution at this time.
